Getting started with USB over Network on Linux

FlexiHub is a one-of-a-kind USB over Network Linux software solution, and FlexiHub makes it super easy to access and control USB devices, allowing users to enjoy their USB devices in just a few simple steps.

Follow these steps on a Linux computer to get started sharing your USB devices over the Internet:

  • 1.
  • 2.
Download and perform an installation of FlexiHub on the computer that is physically connected to the USB device you wish to share. Then, install the software on all computers that will access the peripheral hardware remotely.

  • 3.
Launch FlexiHub on the local and remote machines and log into the same FlexiHub account.

Note: While you use the same credentials to log into your online FlexiHub account and the FlexiHub application, they are not the same. Logging into the web account only lets you manage your account and will not enable you to share your USB devices over IP.

  • 4.
Locate the device you want to connect to on a remote machine and click the ‘Connect’ button to establish the connection.

The shared device will be recognized by the remote system as if it has a direct connection to the hardware after the connection is established.

Note: The USB devices connected to the computers logged into the FlexiHub account are available to all other FlexiHub nodes. You can control who can use the devices by locking them and limiting access to selected users.

Inviting other users to access shared USB devices

FlexiHub introduced the ability to invite other FlexiHub users to connect to your shared devices beginning in version 3.0 of the tool. This feature fosters collaboration with other FlexiHub users and protects your account. Invites give you control over how you can share a specific device without compromising your account credentials.

The following simple procedure is all you need to send an invitation to another user.

  • 1.
Right-click the device to be shared and choose ‘Send invite’.
  • 2.
Enter the email address of the other FlexiHub user’s account and click the ‘Send invite’ button.
Send Invite to access the shared device to the other person
  • 3.
The recipient must accept the invitation before they can access and use the shared device.
Note: There is no limit to the number of invitations that can be sent. Accepted invitations can be terminated by the sender at any time by clicking the ‘Delete’ button next to the invitation. The recipient can also end the connection by right-clicking on the shared device and selecting the ‘Delete invite’ button.
